Come up at A. Hold the working thread to the left of the needle. Go in at B, and come up at C. BC is above and slightly to the right of A.

Go in at D, and come up at E. Hold the thread from AB under the needle. DE is only a few threads long.

Hold the working thread to the left of the needle. Go in a F, and come out at G. FG is the same length as BC and just slightly to the right. No background shows between these threads.

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 several times. Then holding the working thread to the left of the needle, go in at H and come up at I. H is opposite B, and I is the midpoint of the upper and lower edge.

Go in at J slightly below I, and come out at K.

Repeat Steps 2 through 5 until the desired space is filled, then go to the reverse at L.
