This join is a variation of the Roumanian stitch. The stitch slides into the space between the edges and becomes vertical.

Bring the needle up at A and go down at B. Pull the needle through below AB.

Keep the working thread over AB and come up at C.

Enter the fabric at D. Pass the needle under B1C. Pull the needle through.

With the working thread over B1C, come up at E. Repeat Steps 3 and 4.
