This join forms Z-shaped figures with space between them.

This join looks like a decorative seam in that very little space is visible between the two sides. The space shown in the diagrams is for clarity only. The Z on the face formed by the Straight stitches is the same on the reverse.

Slide the needle inside the fold on the left side and come up on the face at A a quarter of an inch left of the fold and three quarters of an inch down from the top.Go down at B (through both layers) and come up at C (through both layers). |
Go in at B (through both layers) and come up at A (through both layers). |

Reverse |

Go to the reverse at D (through both layers). |
Turn the work to the reverse. Go inside the fold at A. Slide the needle between the two layers for three quarters of an inch. With the needle still between the two layers turn the work to the face. |

Come out at E on the face (E is three quarters of an inch below A). Using E as a new A, repeat Steps 1 through 5. |
