In 1843 Hill and Adamson launched a photography studio in Edinburgh, Scotland. Partners for more than four years, the two men produced over three thousand calotype prints. Talbot’s patent for the calotype process did not pertain in Scotland, so Hill and Adamson were able to freely adopt calotypy as their medium of choice.
