Intro:

The term “Polaroid” refers to the instant cameras and film developed by the Polaroid Company in the 1940s. In the 1960s Andy Warhol turned this easy-to-use photographic technology, intended for the mass-market, to novel artistic ends. He took advantage of the camera’s portability and spontaneity-of-use to create candid portraits of celebrities, friends, and members of his circle, including renowned Seattle art collector Jane Lang. Remarkably, Warhol amassed tens of thousands of such images. The Henry Art Gallery now has 150 of them in the collection, a 2008 gift from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. and The Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy Program.
