In fashion, silhouette is the basic outline or shape of a garment. Silhouettes evolve and shift as hemlines move up and down and the shapes of skirts, sleeves, waistlines, jackets, and trousers change. The silhouette of the 1830s featured huge sleeves and a slightly raised waist.
