  • Embellishments

Embellishments decorate or adorn by adding detail or ornament to a textile’s surface, seams, or edges. Printing and dyeing color and pattern the surface by adding a dye directly or by applying a substance that prevents the dye from penetrating certain areas. Embroidery stitches provide color, pattern, and texture. Cloth, braid, beads, sequins, coins, coral, jet, buttons, and other items applied to a textile’s surface give visual interest. Many other features, including tassels, fringe, edge bindings and decorative machine stitching may enhance a textile’s appearance.
